Triple Boo for a Start

Although I have been playing with paper for decades, it feels like I am on a new journey.  I have found a love for die-cuts and card-making "things"...even though I have never been a "card person" or a "scrapbooker."  But hey, there are no rules!

For my first finished "piece" I present "Triple Boo's"!

I definitely need to do some research on how to take better photos!

Supplies:

Process:

  • I didn't really have any sort of project in mind when I started.  At first I just wanted to try cutting out the little ghost out of white card stock.
  • Then I wanted to see what it would look like out of patterned paper.
    • It didn't seem like the arms and mouth stood out very well, so I tried to shade around those parts with some watered-down ink.  I must have had some purple out somewhere...but not sure what it was.  I am pretty sure that it was a bit much!  ;o)
    • I cut out a flower from the same patterned paper and put it on the ghosts head.
  • Then I tried dabbing up the rest of the ink with the paper.  I loved the effect and cut the third ghost (far left) out with that.  She's my favorite.

  • At this point I pivoted to trying to organize and audit my craft supplies.  I came across the set of flower dies I had purchased months ago...before I even had a die cutting machine!  Those little flowers were more challenging to do than I thought.  I tried watching a couple of tutorials, but I think I need to practice more.  Since I already had the pattern paper scrap from ghost #2, I just used that.  And then I got the idea to put the flowers on the other two ghosts that did not have a head adornment yet.
  • Since that pattern paper already had little flowers on it, I fussy cut out two of them to give to
  • Now I had three ghosties, and decided I needed to do something with them.  I pulled out some stencils (I had never used) and tried to find a yellow to match the pattern paper.  Actually, this might be the first time I've ever used any stencil!

I blotted a cotton ball scrap I had on the ink pad and used that.  Not the best tool, but it worked.
  • I thought I'd also use a watered down version of the blue ink on the stencil and just offset it a bit.  In hindsight, I wish I had just left the yellow.
  • I placed the ghosts on the background and painted on a bit of shadow with the same watered down blue ink.

  • I decided to try and "finish" it by giving it a border.  I hand tore strips of the same pattern paper and placed them as a frame.
  • It felt like it still needed a little something, so I die cut "Boo" from the same set that the ghost came in and placed it under them.
  • For a quick and easy display, I bought a little 6"x4" frame (Dollar Tree) and used some Magic Scotch tape rolled up on itself to attach it to the outside of the frame.  The frame is really just a stand that I can reuse!  (And hopefully the tape comes off the paper without any problems.)
Woohoo!  Three Little Boos!

It isn't nearly as polished as I would like, but by golly it was fun to make and it is done!  I did a thing!  And even documented it!

Well, why not?

Starting a blog in 2025 seems a bit crazy.  Especially considering I really prefer to write my own words instead of AI-ing them.  I am not anti-AI...I just like to write.  It is like making bread out of my scattered dough of thoughts. I did a couple of quick searches on starting a blog in 2025.  And then I quickly realized that is a silly rabbit hole to fall into.  I am looking for a good place to capture and organize information around this new paper craft hobby I've been playing with for the last few months.  I have started collecting information on Pinterest , but I don't know if that is a good place to keep all of my information, projects, processes, etc.  So, here we are! Now...with that out of the way...

Blue Fairy Matchbox Magic

Today is a holiday (Labor Day), so I have bit of extra crafting/creating time.  (Woohoo!)  I thought I would put together a cute little matchbox book kit by the very talented Emma Parrish.  And, even though this is an easy set to put together, Emma has a wonderful video that walks you through it. Supplies: Digital kit (Etsy) printed on Neenah 110 lb Index card Ink:  Junesix waterbased ink  (blue and light beige; unsure of exact colors) Makeup sponge for edges.  the outcome was fine, but probably best to stick with a blending/foam stamping brush. Scissors Glue Scoring tool metal ruler (for easy scoring) Craft knife (for cutting out inside of sewing machine) Process: It is really best to watch Emma's video.  But basically: Cut out all of the pieces. Put box together. Put box cover together. Put book together. Put book in box. Decorate!  (This might be the. most time consuming part...and definitely the most fun!) I did have a couple of stam...
